Back to Simplicity

Lyn placed an order which was like 3 orders, for 3 occasions. Lyn was my first cupcake customer, yeah I mean the first person who bought a box of cupcakes from me. I still remember that was a box of 16 pieces medium cupcakes and it was not specially arranged - Lyn saw the box of cupcakes and just decided to buy that off me. It was a good start, cupcake orders is a big part of the TeaRoom biz now. And for the next few posts, you will be seeing a lot of cupcakes. In fact, there was an inquiry just now, but this will be another story.

Chocolate coated coffee bean and couverture white chocolate droplet

For Lyn's order, it was all about simplicity and back to innovative use of ready made toppers. Some of her favorite toppers were the chocolate coated coffee beans, marshmallows, chocolates and the icing itself.

Cadbury's Moment - Hazelnut praline

Marshmallows

A Smiley which Lyn has specifically reminded me to put on and direction of the smiley face specified as well. Not like this way :) Haha... You know, if I'd drew it the wrong way, I can always just rotate it :p

On Thursday evening, before I left office, Lyn called to urgently arrange for one of the boxes to be delivered that very night. This was the one, for her mum's birthday celebration. (Thanks for coming all the way to pick this up babe)

This was the other box which I'd managed to deliver also one night earlier.

And this box was picked up this morning for a birthday celebration in the office. Hope you've had a great time!

Lyn's cupcakes were vanilla cupcakes with coloured butter icing.

Service Excellence!

My aunt ordered this for a birthday celebration in her office. She wanted a TTB although she would not be the one who will get to keep the bear. (I think the bear has been eaten already)

This has got to do with some customer service stuff...

GI Joe at Gym

Nick has already chosen the the theme of the cake for August as "GI JOE". At first I thought it was for Body Combat class... Well, looking at the picture above, I'm sure you can guess - It's for RPM. Or is it for August birthday babies? Sounds like the baker might have gotten confused with the themes right? :p

Anyways... RPM bikes, bicycles... I'm not very familiar actually and I could already feel the difficulties by just imagining it. Told Pat about the theme and while she was requesting for her own set of RPM accessories, she also sent me a picture of a bike (your bike ya?). After looking at her picture, and after some "planning" I found that it was quite impossible to construct the wheels. I needed something more solid but wasn't sure if there is such thing... so after googling, I found something relatively easier and have reconfirmed with Pat that it's something quite common - the solid wheels.

Here's the bike, by the cake. As I told Pat, "cheated" on this because quite many parts of the bikes are actually stuck on the cake and this bike cannot do stand alone. And I didn't manage to make detals of the sadle, besides, I had to go thicker/ bigger on certain parts so that it will stay intact.

As for the GI Joe theme... I've decided to send TTB for the job. Since I've not watch GI Joe the movie, neither have I read the comics, I haven't got a clue on the characters. My brother in law has originally suggested that I make ninjas... Later I've spoken to my colleague who'd provided me a lot of information (thanks Ching!), and so here's the main character General Hawk. (I hope I've gotten this right). As for the combat pants, it's from one of the pictures I've googled, not that great, Swee said it doesn't look like a combat pants but an artist pants or something like that. My graphics designer also didn't know what "happened" to the pants... okay. I'm taking a painting class next. Haha...

Here's the "delicious-choco-birthday cake" as Nick has put it.

And here's the comments from my "bike consultant" (thanks Pat) - Veeerrrryyyyy cute :)....... want a BIGGER bicycle!!!! Your saddle and pedal very cute and FAT! I know its not easy to do those .....well done well done....I want!!!!!!!!!! can i get one for merdeka??? I am doing an endurance class with CK on Monday @ 31st...

Okay, you know what? I'm not sure if big bike is possible... We shall confirm again.

Longevity

The "Shao Tou" (寿桃) - longevity fruits

Spoke to Shiun Yan last week, the first time again after meeting her in a wedding function previously. She has just been referred to by CS to "TeaRoom" and she has also been told that I can bake really nice cakes. (CS - thanks for the lead but erm... do you supposed you have set the expectations for the customers a bit too high?:p).

Shiun Yan was planning for her mother's 70th birthday and has selected this cake flavour because she wanted something light, and these designs after browsing through the blog (which was when she felt that this blog is just too dangerous for people on diet. Haha... I think I better put up a disclaimer somewhere. :p)

Mini longevity fruits

Pink flowers and leaves

Chinese birthday greeting

This is a sponge cake with lychee custard fillings
A 3 layer cake

Cake covered with fresh cream and decorated with fondant-made longevity fruits and butter icing flowers and leaves. I've used butter icing for the flowers and leaves as I find that the fresh cream does not deliver such defined patterns. Besides, I'm sure the kids will love this cake and the decorations.

Ants on my cake!!!

Yes, those ARE supposed to look like "ants"

Time REALLY flies... The other day sis told me Heilly wanted to order a cake and when I got her birthday message, I went like gasps! Has it been one year, I still remember doing their cake last year!

So when I asked sis what does Heilly want for the decoration? She said something cute and funny... so after consulting with sis, sis has came up with the "bug" theme, we shall have ladybirds on the cake. No flowers because it's too "girly".

So while visualizing a bunch of bugs on the cake, I thought of ants too... and lets have the ants "do something". Ahuh! Let me make them look like they are "invading" and stealing the cherry from the cake. I'm sure this would be humorous enough. :)

When Heilly opened up the cake box, she thought the cherry has fally off during transportation, she put it back but discovered that the cherry was being carried away by the ants, so she put it back on top of the ants. Haha... so funny.

It was quite difficult doing the "legs" too tiny, I was using #1 nozzle already, and since L1 nozzle doesn't fit the coupler and I was lazy, I dotted the legs with the #1 nozzle anyhow. At first I was trying out the ants and they all looked like spiders, haha... so I went around kitchen looking for "template" and huh! Luckily I found one ant running around. Now you wonder whether a sparkling clean kitchen is a good thing or not right? :)

This is a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. If you would like to have this humour cake as well, choose a light colour base cake icing. :)

My Nutritionist's Birthday

It's Juliana's birthday, my "personal" nutritionist :). Her request was blueberry cheesecake - are you thinking of something plain baked cheesecake that is topped with blueberry jam? No, no... not making anything like that... I made one with fresh blueberries.

Here's Juju's personalized TTB - the Nutritionist TTB in her lab coat and a detox file.

Baked cheesecake with an Oreo base. Used both cream cheese and Italian mascarporne cheese with a rich background of couverture white chocolate, embedded with fresh and juicy blueberries.

Hmmm, I think the retail price for this cake would be close to RM200.

Post blog notes:

Got these pictures from Juliana. Specially taken for the TeaRoom album. Thanks dear! :)
