MU & Snake

I know, I know what you are thinking - this cake is for a MU fan whose zodiac is snake! Or MU fan club for snakes :p Hehe...

Yes, this cake is for a MU fan... but the snake is another person. It's a cake to celebrate the birthdays of 2 of Joyce's friends, one of them a MU fan and the other whose nickname is "snake", hence she came up with this idea.

Due to lack of time, I didn't want to challenge myself with time to create the MU logo... I bought a sticker with the MU logo instead and have it stuck onto the mini sugarpaste scarf.

And here's the green snake with yellow spots. I was researching on snakes and found that they are erm... pretty scary, so I was aiming to make a cartoon snake which is cute and funnier looking.

Tadaaa... That's why the big eye and cheeky smile.

Thanks for the fun, Joyce! Enjoy the celebration. :)

Sticky chocolate blueberry cheesecake

Last post for the year! May you all have a fruitful and indulging year ahead with good health, loads of wealth and great success.

Made a sticky chocolate blueberry cheesecake for CS's order. It was for his dad's birthday celebration. The last time I baked this cake was in February for CS' birthday, this is one of the cakes which I only bake like once or twice a year for special occasions, and so far, no order request. The cake has a thick layer of sticky chocolate base, soft centre with oozing chocolate and a layer of cheesecake with fresh blueberries.

I quite like this cake and it's especially good for chocolate lovers who love cheesecake but don't want to get a chocolate cheesecake. However, it is also quite tricky in handling, you do need spoons to eat this cake. And perhaps due to a slight shortage of baking time this round, the cake I heard was a bit too soft with too much chocolate flowing out. Cake has a big crack too when delivered. Have put a note for fixing that.

Made some fishes with jelly with this great mould from Tan See Fong (through Wilton retail). Looks so real right?

Chocolates that looks like little stones and some grass effects. Wanted to create the water effect with some blue piping jelly, but decided not to overdo the cake decoration.

Happy birthday again to uncle. Hope you've had a great birthday celebration.

Bugging the Chocolate Cupcakes

Here's a box of cupcakes ordered by Juliana. At first I thought she might only want like half a dozen since it's only her husband and herself indulging in these.

She took one dozen, 12 of them. "Garden" theme with bugs and... gummy bear. Yeah, I was wondering how bears fit in :).

These are large size moist chocolate cupcakes with dark chocolate icing ("Warned" Juju about the chocolate icing which is made mainly of double cream!)

My Chocolate Cake Wedding Present

CS ordered a cake for his ex-colleagues' wedding. This is supposed to be more of a surprise present for the bride which is why the pink (bride's favorite colour). Besides, I'm sure pink and red won't go wrong with occasions like weddings, especially when the parents are present.

When we brainstormed for the design of the cake, we originally plan to have perhaps things that symbolize what the couple do, their favorite items etc. Tennis? But then again, tennis racket might not really match the mood of this cake. So settled with roses.

By the way, I think the other cake idea of the bed and clothes littered all around will be fun to make and it might better reflect on the couple's routine. :p

This time, the present is being wrapped in pink present paper and tied with pink ribbons dotted with heart designs.

... and a double bow.
A present tag with the couple's name.

I had prepared a lot of different types of greetings. But didn't look like there is much space to write all those "happily ever after..." wishes.

This is a chocolate cake (for obvious reason) covered with milk chocolate icing before being wrapped up in Fondant. Fondant covered cake board. Looks quite good when it's placed inside the cake box as the cake decoration stretches from end to end.

My Chocolate Cake Book

It's my cousin's 21st birthday. I have been baking his birthday cake since 3 years ago for his birthday parties. This time we thought of making it special for him by having a surprise party and I really wanted to make him something special, and fun of course.

At first I thought of making him a PS or something he wish to get... but lucky kid, he has everything he wants. Almost. Sis suggested a book and I thought it's a good idea! So we investigated with the birthday boy's younger sister on the subjects he's studying now and here's one of the chapters.

Made the book from one block of square cake, only needed to separate the two pieces by having a slightly slanting cut in the centre, flip over one of the pieces and trim the edges to become slight rounded. Not much wastage of cake which I really like, it's a pity to be throwing away cakes just because we need to achieve the shape (yeah, alternatively of course we can have all those "by product" for tea). Sis was the "writer" of this book and the contents are all valid contents!

Lightly cut out the shape of the pages with the pizza cutter and made some bookmarks for the book. Painted the book "cover" blue.

A pencil which was place loosely on the book so this can be kept as decorative item. But too bad, the kids broke the pencil and they ate it too.

Some complicated formulas and graphs...

The highlighter, which is more of the older design I suppose. I haven't been using highlighter and didn't have one at home, had to text cousin sis to get "contents" for the highlighter.

I always like studying while enjoying some snacks, and coffee was such a must during my school days. I didn't attempt to make a big mug, made a small one - for espresso! And a little cupcake (it's not a real cupcake).

Those on the cupcake are supposed to be chocolate stick, chocolate decorative item and a piece of marshmallow with chocolate drizzle (not "real" but edible, made of fondant).

The eraser, which was the easiest to make.

Fondant covered cake board which I tried to give a look of a wooden study desk. And it's very handy for sticking candles on.

Sis took cousin bro out to get lunch while we gotten the cake ready at home. The first reaction of the birthday boy besides being surprised was "eh, how come there's a book on the table?!" :)
It took cousin bro a long while before he finally cut into the cake... Here we were, eating the pages of the book. Haha...

Cross section - moist chocolate cake with milk chocolate icing (sandwich and cover).

Algebra anyone?

Alex's actual birthday is on this coming Thursday, happy birthday bro! Study hard :p

Chocolate Cake making appearance at Gym

Thanks Nick for ordering this cake, I had a lot of fun making the toppers and this reminds me that I've not been to a pump class for ages...

Here is the step board, and 7.5kg of weights, for the erm... back track.

Don't forget to get a mat...

A set of dumbbells if you don't want to use plates for your shoulder workout.

Drink lots of water (my favorite item on the cake, this water bottle, heh) and don't forget your towel, very useful not just to wipe sweat but when the mats are erm... a bit yucky. :p

This actually does look like my typical "place" in pump class. Haha...

Happy father's day, I hope all the gym daddies had enjoyed the cake - chocolate is very healthy!
