It's strange... I actually love carrot cake but so far no request for carrot cake. My favorite used to be the one from Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, but the carrot cakes don't seem to taste as good now a days. The one from San Francisco Coffee taste better, but I think they don't have raisins in the cake. Next would be the one from Dome, but... it's RM12 per piece. A bit pricey.
Finally, my colleague requested for a carrot cake for her birthday. This carrot cake has been customized to include white chocolate besides the standard walnuts (and for some, raisins). The cake is also very moist because I've added bananas.
The fun part was the "construction" of the 3D topper, a treasure chest. Decided on a wooden one with some leather looking straps because I don't have gold/ silver colour to achieve the metal looks. Here is the making...
Stuffed the box with loads of chocolate coins. Would have made the coins if I had gold colour, but these were actually more convenient and real. For the fun of it, I made a treasure hunt map. Okay, I actually have no clue how one map should look like.
Covered cake with cream cheese frosting. To save the hassle of smoothing the icing, I've just "weaved" them on... Ta Da! And here's the cake...

Wow! The Treasure Chest is sooooo real! How amazing! Looks yummy too =D
map does look smthg like that. TTB, i have to say that you are getting better and better at cake decoration. like it. how do you make the strap and the box btw?
Thanks guys. The cake was actually quite yummy. Except the icing which was really a bit sweet, erm.. it's icing sugar afterall.
Ladynina, with the hard work at the recent diploma course, everything (almost) is possible haha... the box construction - cut out pieces of fondant, let them dry and harden, stick together with edible glu. The straps - cut out stripes of fondant, imprint the dotted lines on both sides, glu them to the box. Stick in the silver balls when the fondant is still soft. Easy right?
