Castle cake

Made this for Kim at the last minute. I was supposed to attend a 3 day class and had closed those dates for all orders, but the class was cancelled last minute, therefore also took Kim's order last minute :)

I was originally thinking of a fondant cake, but Kim was interested in a fresh cream cake. As you know, fondant decorations are actually not compatible with chilled cakes. Hmm... But Kim gave me an idea of ice cream cones as the towers, so I thought I can actually cover the cones with fresh cream. The figurines would just have to go onto the cake just before delivery.

But actually this is not a good idea. SO SORRY Kim! The cone got too soft and it didn't hold up and survive her car journey home. So for you who are reading this, if you want a chilled castle cake, I would suggest plastic towers. :)

The requested figurines - the puppies from Barbie and the Diamond Castle series, and the cat from the Three Musketeers. And a girl figurine - No, I can't make Barbie, it is too "real" kind of animation, I am not able to copy the face features.

It wasn't a perfect cake but I actually liked this cake a lot. It would be good if the cake is served when it was just piped up. But as for orders, can't do lah... ;)

I Luv Grandpa

Audrey ordered this cake. I was curious myself at first about how the cake will appear to look like with TTB and the longevity peaches. One thing about free-hand designs, you just gather everything customers like and later try to patch everything up together so that they don't look too out of place :p

TTB with a heart, and the happy birthday message made of chocolate

This was a black forest cake - chocolate sponge filled with dark pitted cherries and fresh cream. My worry was how long the fondant would still manage to look nice on this chilled cake. The delivery was 11am and the cake cutting was only at night that day, one whole day... I tried to make the fondant decorations way in advance hoping that if they were dry and steady, they can survive the moisture better.

Happy birthday to Grandpa!

note to self: must remember to check with Audrey how did the fondant decorations do that night...

Durian Fresh Cream Cake

This was ordered my Mavis too, together with the box of World Cup 2010 cupcakes.

Since I am not a big fan of durian, this was my first time making a durian cake, a variation of the fresh cream fruit cake.

Fresh Cream Fruit Cake

Nice or not this picture? Taken at Delicious, the restaurant we went to celebrate this belated birthday dinner. I was sitting at the end of the table where there was this spot with really good lighting, like studio shot. :)

Yeah, haha... this is the second belated birthday cake by TeaRoom for CS. There are two groups of friends, so two times celebration. And it is actually quite out of the norm for this cake to be non chocolate. In fact the spec was non chocolate and non cheese, something light and healthy. So I'd made fresh cream fruit cake - sponge cake layered with fresh cream and fruits. This one had a layer of mandarin oranges (from the can, those nicely peeled ones) and a layer of longan (something following through the CNY mood) with fresh cream. Covered with fresh cream and topped with more fruits.

Centre piece was a KFC TTB, for a KFC lover. And yeah, we should have gone to KFC for dinner ;). But if you plan to order this cake, fondant toppers and decorations are actually not advisable. I have one for this cake just because I was bringing this cake to dinner and I'd only place TTB on the cake just before I went to the restaurant. TTB was already "sweating" when I remove him from the cake. Unless the fondant topper is not going to be left on the cake for too long, then it is okay to request for one.

Cake at crime scene.

Left over, I think we would have finished this if there were another 3 people or so, or more of us having second helpings. :)
